When these homeowners from Des Moines, WA, approached Olympic Decks with the vision of renovating their old, worn-out wooden deck, they were clear about wanting a space that was both sleek and functional. Situated in King County, their backyard needed to be a usable space where they could entertain friends and enjoy quiet family evenings.
Understanding their needs, we proposed an elevated deck design using high-quality composite materials known for their longevity and minimal upkeep. They were particularly concerned about the safety of their young children and pets, which guided our decision to incorporate sturdy, black aluminum railings with a secure gate at the deck’s entry.
To match the contemporary aesthetics of their home, we chose a neutral brown color scheme for the decking. This not only complimented the lighter hues of their house’s exterior but also provided a striking contrast with the black railing, giving the deck a modern, polished look.
Lighting was another critical element for these homeowners, who wanted their decks to be usable after sunset. We integrated cap lighting on all the posts, which adds safety while adding to the ambiance during their evening gatherings.
The final touch was the underdeck lattice panels, a practical solution requested by the homeowners to store patio furniture and other outdoor essentials, keeping the backyard neat and tidy during the winter months.
